Here I Go Again

What happened to my "finish two, one new" rule?

I've started yet another new project.  But it was self-defense, I assure you.  Remember this spring "modern" fabric disaster?

Fireworks Disaster
Having purchased about 40 FQs in Pigeon Forge with the plan to use them to make a new class sample for the Japanese Star and Fireworks classes in June ...

Fat Quarter Fun -- Hmmph
... I proceeded to cut them all entirely into 1.5" strips.  My concept failed and I've been staring at those strips hanging on the rack for six months.

Strip Jail
The mess needed to go; the sooner, the better.  I saw this pattern in the October 2015 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting and I could see how my strips might work.

Besides, 60 degree is my shtick...  So this is what is on my design wall this morning.

Top-Notch Diamonds
designed by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic
There will be a bunch more with lighter gray diamonds and possibly more color.  I'm working in groups of 8 so that I can get a nice dispersement of fabrics.

Hop over to Patchwork Times to see what others are working on.

  1. Brilliant use of your strips! And does this really count as a new project, since it's to use up already cut pieces?! ;-)

  4. I have no idea what your disaster was and this is looking fabulous. Great recovery! I remember a trip through Pigeon Forge when I was about 10. My dad had been to Army camp in GA and Mom and I had gone with him. On the way home, we decided to go to Pigeon Forge for the night. We had no idea it was a tourist town. The traffic was stop and go into the town. As we were stopped, a bear cub came along side the car. I started to roll my window down and immediately my folks told me to roll the window back up. We never travelled with room reservations, so ... We found a tourist home that was full and she had a neighbor who had kept someone the night before. The family agreed. We had much in common with them. My mom and the wife were each school teachers and both families were farm families. The next morning they even had breakfast for us. They had enjoyed us so much that they didn't even want to charge us. The room they provided us was fitted with a double bed and a roll away - that was the same as home. The second day we went into Pigeon Forge shopping and I remember seeing a working loom in a storefront. Then we headed toward WV. Lots of things which could have been problems, God handled and I have pleasant memories of the trip. Again, your blocks are beautiful.

  5. Great use of your strips!! I wouldn't say this is a new start, either. The strips were cut and waiting to be paroled from jail! Finding this new pattern was a good thing to do. :)
