One Monthly Goal - August

No Dog Days Here!

By now you may have read that I never really got going on my July goal(s), but I'm not going back.

Sew onward I go! I've been trying to link my OMG with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge colors which this month are "hazy purple with a hint of evergreens." My first thought was "purple, again? Surely I've maxed out my purple supply!"

Well, no, as it turns out. It's surprising how frequently I have turned to this color combination. (I think it has to do with an extremely talented artistic friend who passed away from pancreatic cancer as a very young woman -- a story for another day).

Look! Hazy purple with a touch of evergreen!
A survey of my UFOs revealed at least 3 potential projects. I've settled on the one that should be easiest to accomplish: Serene Glow

This is one of those quilts where the fabric does the work. It utilizes a Daiwabo print that grades from light to dark.  I've made it before in brown; now I will use the "hazy purple" colorway.

Serene Glow - in progress
The centers of the stars are 25-patches which I began over a year ago. I also cut the quarter square triangles back then, as well. These are big blocks so it should go together quickly. I have selected another darker purple Daiwabo print for the star points and a light background for the stars.

SO, my One Monthly Goal (OMG) for August is to get "Purple Haze" to the flimsy stage. This is one that will probably go to my LAQ soon thereafter. She did such a beautiful job on the brown one which I have given to my son and DIL; I want one for myself!

Heidi at Red Letter Quilts hosts the OMG Challenge; you can see what other quilters are planning there.

  2. I'd be in trouble this month as purple is not found in my stash much at all. Your UFO is going to be beautiful. I can see why you want one for yourself. :)
