Oh, Happy Day!

The second clue of Bonnie's mystery -- you know, the one I'm *not* doing -- was revealed on Friday.  Even though triangle-in-a-square blocks are my least favorite, this clue made me happy because:

1)  I found the perfect magenta fabric in my stash!

2) I was able to make the units at 4-1/2" to match my erroneous 4-patches without doing any higher math calculations!

And 3)  Even at half the number, the larger unit size will yield a nice size quilt.

So far, so good. Forty-eight TiS units done; waiting to see how they will be used before making more.

Hop over to Quiltville's Quips and Snips to check on others' progress.

In between I squeezed in some small flying geese as leaders/enders.

The beginning of Dutchman's Puzzle
I had cut the geese for another project, then changed my color scheme for that project. I think this chocolate brown with sprinkles background/sky will be unexpected.

This morning I went in a totally different direction, working on a Secret Santa project.

No, it's not a placemat.  It is going to be ...

... an iron tote!!!  Once I worked through the geometry of the stitching/fold lines, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  Now on to the binding, handles, and buttons.

  1. LOVE what you're NOT doing with Bonnie's Mystery quilt!! The Dutchman's Puzzle blocks look like fun, too. Congrats! on figuring out the geometry on the Iron Tote... it looks to be beyond me.

  3. I too LOVE your work on the Mystery Sampler you AREN'T doing... that magenta fabric is smashing... and I have to say I love the fabrics in the flying geese leader/endes... I recognize that limey green fabric as a KP Kids... I loved their fabric and wish they were still designing... I have little bits and pieces of their fabric in my stash and it makes me smile...good luck with the sampler you aren't doing!

  4. Lovely absolutely-totally-mostly-not-mystery bits! (And happy day that Bonnie has given us yet another component that's useful for all sorts of wonderful things!)
Can't wait to see where those geese fly!

  5. You're making a lot of progress on a project you're *not* working on! Love that magenta print. Your FG block looks cute too, who can resist chocolate with sprinkles? Cool iron tote, lucky friend.

  6. You did indeed find the perfect magenta - love that fabric!!!! I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one making mistakes on this mystery. I finished up 25 of my #2 units last night - feeling so proud of myself and those perfect little tri-rec units - and BAM! Seeing the pics of others' units this morning I realized I reversed the fabrics!!!! Yep, my magenta is in the middle, flanked by the neutrals. UGH!!! At least I had only done 25 LOL :*)

  11. I really like your fabric choices. That swirly neutral is really nice. And I love that you're just going with it on the unit size!

  12. Your BH mystery fabrics are wonderful, but I know you are "not" doing it, really. lol With such a pretty piece of magenta, how could you "not" do it and from your stash to boot. I'm taking a "wait and see" approach right now.
