Once you let a day go by, it morphs into a week. So much for my New Year's Resolution!</p><p>Anyway, it's been a productive week on many fronts. First I chose my starting block for the Stay at Home Round Robin and got started on the first round.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhbmg17U0jCTWom2qr9BSvfFHGubapJZCPlO6tIl1QWyWk7nLB-q8Z91sbeRpUiCN3M4jQZDzxKXJvyoTy_VojH5scCAKqs30ah9II7Wsh4R8a2qbObBKCyAIBE8CUhJMVUswCFIRrfe7RTZnyZutZAVoWWwr6seQG78z9m_37p-p4i8aQOI_LWvXlGDAA" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="3294" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhbmg17U0jCTWom2qr9BSvfFHGubapJZCPlO6tIl1QWyWk7nLB-q8Z91sbeRpUiCN3M4jQZDzxKXJvyoTy_VojH5scCAKqs30ah9II7Wsh4R8a2qbObBKCyAIBE8CUhJMVUswCFIRrfe7RTZnyZutZAVoWWwr6seQG78z9m_37p-p4i8aQOI_LWvXlGDAA=w293-h320" width="293" /></a></div><br />Not being so thrilled with my progress, I put that project on hold. I did manage to get a couple more blocks of 1863 on the design wall.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg-Xon5ZdkHYgo3DOVy-7Y7IVCZd0-N_EdLsstdrYsTienljHr1jb3Aw5POhT7HgOPIK4f9CHLySXLzOu9tNNPV_L2ZiH8ZyAH23uMqO57NXIuqYajsde2qz5KKPoTsU25o3qKrKak_KGiVLHg3qq9ThASeQnHVUDFYTkZ3gZSV3MbpWX9Zocfldwr-KPU" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg-Xon5ZdkHYgo3DOVy-7Y7IVCZd0-N_EdLsstdrYsTienljHr1jb3Aw5POhT7HgOPIK4f9CHLySXLzOu9tNNPV_L2ZiH8ZyAH23uMqO57NXIuqYajsde2qz5KKPoTsU25o3qKrKak_KGiVLHg3qq9ThASeQnHVUDFYTkZ3gZSV3MbpWX9Zocfldwr-KPU=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />I now have 12 of the 27 blocks finished. My goal is to finish a block a day.<p></p><p>I have determined that I have too much stuff. Can you relate? Anyway, it's really weighing me down so I plan to divest myself of lots of it. Anything I don't think I'll use in my remaining years I am putting up for grabs with my Devo and S'mores friends. What doesn't get taken will go to a charity in Nashville that supports developmentally disadvantaged adults. So I devoted quite a bit of time over the weekend to culling through my batiks. I had no idea how many I had!</p><p>Meanwhile, Spring is about to spring! I was stumped. </p><p>You see, I had participated in SaHRR at couple of years ago, using a block I had made after a quilt show where various vendors offered a kit for a block all using fabrics from a particular line. I was pleased with how that exercise worked out.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhbYMyvMmXs0HRfQm47uO_JDXMRB_BI8pWkCewmj6Zltp4prayvik5JAWK2y1uSahtQa5rFOrrkay1XRv961O8XYzLxETNBtCz56n8tKKZFHUJHjsbEHCEa4RTqRDaXIwUTjc_RitDWlj8OslEaWP9BJvkFDYFbKdZkPMmOQjS8BDtPwpt6miAxoBJtGxg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="3213" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhbYMyvMmXs0HRfQm47uO_JDXMRB_BI8pWkCewmj6Zltp4prayvik5JAWK2y1uSahtQa5rFOrrkay1XRv961O8XYzLxETNBtCz56n8tKKZFHUJHjsbEHCEa4RTqRDaXIwUTjc_RitDWlj8OslEaWP9BJvkFDYFbKdZkPMmOQjS8BDtPwpt6miAxoBJtGxg=w377-h400" width="377" /></a></div><br />I looked in my Orphan Block bin and found three more blocks from that show and my first thought was to use one of them so that I would have a companion piece -- or even the starting point for a whole quilt. <p></p><p>BUT, I also found an interesting basket block ...</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjl0C8DULlpNxNB67UpP79zPIhlVhbAK-yVkfXC9fdXCwmwp7kLxstQejF3GMxmQ8AeuDJihoLXFxJa_N59IIKM5e813KagA__74Kto5uQbGYSRbffArJQqCu1LJUWK9Vg7AiMvnWc8rR6JDODjxVaPIvitDfCaw8Ro2jvEiW08U3IP-CevX5JSBLPfxuE" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjl0C8DULlpNxNB67UpP79zPIhlVhbAK-yVkfXC9fdXCwmwp7kLxstQejF3GMxmQ8AeuDJihoLXFxJa_N59IIKM5e813KagA__74Kto5uQbGYSRbffArJQqCu1LJUWK9Vg7AiMvnWc8rR6JDODjxVaPIvitDfCaw8Ro2jvEiW08U3IP-CevX5JSBLPfxuE=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><p>... as well as a collection of big blocks left over from the Women of the Bible quilt I made in 2022.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj8-VjIv8CC81DpCl8Ka78ZeoOlNKsfTQo6DssNz5KANE68WOmtcS45jWvWhsLsusNmcifdZTs5GyhoVZqFy2M9MHAH0Ua9ob9CMfcTl2ziMshZ0oortWytt55rjuFnVybz0o9w95AXdojSsSFYAiEBrf5m8T5uPdIQBpMNNKutiI5NsQqR-OO6X3xalzg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj8-VjIv8CC81DpCl8Ka78ZeoOlNKsfTQo6DssNz5KANE68WOmtcS45jWvWhsLsusNmcifdZTs5GyhoVZqFy2M9MHAH0Ua9ob9CMfcTl2ziMshZ0oortWytt55rjuFnVybz0o9w95AXdojSsSFYAiEBrf5m8T5uPdIQBpMNNKutiI5NsQqR-OO6X3xalzg=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></p><br /><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I was able to pull together leftover fabric from the Bible quilt and was leaning strongly to starting with this ugly dark block that hadn't worked with the other light blocks in that quilt.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhtwX4tlRkBBV092vb5h1SFLTpQpluCfIZw556eWAeK5KGOQGHoI7VW108fuX3YKF7tUAZ30sT62KCDwCmhTRBR6y27axji1YcnuVnsBHwLtapnBQF84SwwcH30xGQk6vZnRDY2f3G10tR0WISHIEEegFjNcxisFtz0F9bcvqLyvRMDD1fyOZFdB1Pzk9g" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="3090" data-original-width="2906" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhtwX4tlRkBBV092vb5h1SFLTpQpluCfIZw556eWAeK5KGOQGHoI7VW108fuX3YKF7tUAZ30sT62KCDwCmhTRBR6y27axji1YcnuVnsBHwLtapnBQF84SwwcH30xGQk6vZnRDY2f3G10tR0WISHIEEegFjNcxisFtz0F9bcvqLyvRMDD1fyOZFdB1Pzk9g" width="226" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><br />Decisions, decisions. As of noon on Monday we have accumulated over 3" of snow and it's still coming down. Our son in Nashville has 6" and since our weather comes from that direction, we could be in for more. Thankfully my Tuesday meeting has been cancelled and I'm hoping the Wednesday one will be cancelled, as well. More time in the sewing room!</p><p>So how have I taken advantage of the situation? Well, I took another look at my plan for Strippy Stars in my last post. I just wasn't happy with the orangey-gold of the strippy strips. It just didn't seem to go with the floral borders, in spite of the fact that they came from the same piece of fabric. So I decided to use the border print throughout instead, and I'm much happier with the look.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhpoF-1_JKPd-edup8u66y-RQP50GacDxJ9qz-dCOYRveWauDSaPaJGJhGcy8qvfYFogTz6AMAw5bxSc7ct5mFbhBzPDde8ZKHt9RpjTWw3i8uKnn_qXKEmrJNul66kzbF23NiYgBN29kLI3rrmQfVlRSAk9CCxKr9MF8_DXQkpK1y6DdA2h1iBuNm0pR4" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhpoF-1_JKPd-edup8u66y-RQP50GacDxJ9qz-dCOYRveWauDSaPaJGJhGcy8qvfYFogTz6AMAw5bxSc7ct5mFbhBzPDde8ZKHt9RpjTWw3i8uKnn_qXKEmrJNul66kzbF23NiYgBN29kLI3rrmQfVlRSAk9CCxKr9MF8_DXQkpK1y6DdA2h1iBuNm0pR4=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />I will need to make seven more stars to make it long enough for WOWE. <div><br /></div>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-62588023332070570382024-01-14T08:18:00.000-06:002024-01-14T08:18:06.143-06:00Time Flies When You're Having Fun!<p>Expecting the possibility of freezing rain on Friday morning, we packed our heavy stuff out Thursday night so I didn't have a chance to photograph my progress till I got home. As planned on Tuesday I worked on Jo Morton's Strippy Stars. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhLfFxeR3JyGq9Ynyv3gddX8n6buS-IuafoeEYsaFplAtnRU4Fn8eWr_vtKSBQ5zTKgXMbEoI2bpflP38fiGhgIdwP-SbL-zvLIEJtqPxILIIKzXzZuQSNLnTUMvfS_9HbhsF70ixoeMmdVqq4pG-XguX2jj-pjhqYGWFL0f9fsUD1djAMzw3pCT_lwiXU" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhLfFxeR3JyGq9Ynyv3gddX8n6buS-IuafoeEYsaFplAtnRU4Fn8eWr_vtKSBQ5zTKgXMbEoI2bpflP38fiGhgIdwP-SbL-zvLIEJtqPxILIIKzXzZuQSNLnTUMvfS_9HbhsF70ixoeMmdVqq4pG-XguX2jj-pjhqYGWFL0f9fsUD1djAMzw3pCT_lwiXU=w240-h320" width="240" /></a></div><br />I got many, if not all, stars made but I'm not definite on my setting yet. I have a beautiful strippy print that I want to use as the separator. The borders are cut from that same strippy print.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjPlXp0XCN6PKwWZmzV7ZMBl1PLPYeOxsIS8DKsW2oR_RgxcXuZfcT7bHsszUyY7xyRpj6PBgu7QI0f1h64zgR-NVXaBdOibYCdB0Nz4MmOr2evBHJ4p1wVcNg2RIp6XgCmRH4dY7bjf7zmxOcwN71_QStdRginjNmuTrLw48MZ4PC6svbnkGo7R4gXe6M" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjPlXp0XCN6PKwWZmzV7ZMBl1PLPYeOxsIS8DKsW2oR_RgxcXuZfcT7bHsszUyY7xyRpj6PBgu7QI0f1h64zgR-NVXaBdOibYCdB0Nz4MmOr2evBHJ4p1wVcNg2RIp6XgCmRH4dY7bjf7zmxOcwN71_QStdRginjNmuTrLw48MZ4PC6svbnkGo7R4gXe6M" width="180" /></a></div><br />The green strip in the photo is another fabric. It will have to be fussy-cut and I'm not sure it's worth the effort. So with everything under consideration, that project went back into the box.<p></p><p>Remember that "had-to-make" project I mentioned a couple of posts ago? Well, I devoted most of Wednesday to <i>1863</i> by <a href="https://www.quiltwithjudy.com/">Judy Hasheider</a>. I have the centers of all the blocks made and Thursday will be devoted to making the HSTs for the outside round of the blocks. I had planned to use a light blue-gray for the zig-zag setting, but that decision is still pending. Watch for an update on Friday after I get home.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-59708555352323749822024-01-09T09:33:00.002-06:002024-01-09T09:33:51.976-06:00If It's January, It Must Be Rock Island<p>So glad that the stars aligned and I am able to attend one of my favorite retreats at a nearby state park. Four in our cabin and three more in the cabin next door. I already have accomplished much, but before I get into that, I want to answer a question from a no-reply blogger in my last post. </p><p>Ozark Cajun asked about my project boxes and where to get them. They are Protect-n-Store boxes that I found in the scrapbooking section of JoAnn. I like them because they are a full 12-inches square and I can store large blocks flat in them. (Not to mention they are about half the price of Art Bins!) I don't know if JoAnn still carries them; last night I found them on several sites on Amazon. </p><p>Now, on to my progress! Soon after my arrival Sunday afternoon I put borders on a small wheelchair top.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhovUwRqOpaI37tSIOZlSCxz48nXChIFgkL13rNHE_hQI5rQbw9acKPLVq5WxydNsC1Ofy1BQV_SqjoFwzWwD-4-T0WS22dmbM4ORVXyzS0lTKXNuNpigK3WtdXj0zxNHXKw09svfO4PfmRk_Pjapg6aI9rontT4N4w8gjNd3ccB0tzFUWG_Rwp1RbKIxY" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhovUwRqOpaI37tSIOZlSCxz48nXChIFgkL13rNHE_hQI5rQbw9acKPLVq5WxydNsC1Ofy1BQV_SqjoFwzWwD-4-T0WS22dmbM4ORVXyzS0lTKXNuNpigK3WtdXj0zxNHXKw09svfO4PfmRk_Pjapg6aI9rontT4N4w8gjNd3ccB0tzFUWG_Rwp1RbKIxY=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />The pattern is my own design; I call it Irish Grandmother (long story). Since I will be teaching it at my guild in March, I decided to put together some color samples to help prospective students as I think choosing fabric is one of the hardest parts of making quilts, especially for a class.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhYiKnhLl2LG4kAJpiB0ggS0tmrYGnKQdhHeKaMUO0f_hbPLXUIl_gy3avCsMRi4IQsj43pRkub27Z84n_OB_fFr31bV3GTmLVWXeME1TREcAvlkvWmjpxPpvHkYMS-Xeg7R9iVlC8ZQgfK-GWb5ejAgD6n2JCNC4Gmf9nrLBgOQNGmj2XfaGK33KgR94o" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="414" data-original-width="640" height="259" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhYiKnhLl2LG4kAJpiB0ggS0tmrYGnKQdhHeKaMUO0f_hbPLXUIl_gy3avCsMRi4IQsj43pRkub27Z84n_OB_fFr31bV3GTmLVWXeME1TREcAvlkvWmjpxPpvHkYMS-Xeg7R9iVlC8ZQgfK-GWb5ejAgD6n2JCNC4Gmf9nrLBgOQNGmj2XfaGK33KgR94o=w400-h259" width="400" /></a></div><br />The top shown above has two color families (blue and brown) with a constant background; the color fabric in each block is the same, but different from the other blocks. In my samples, the black and gold demonstrates just two fabrics, one for the background and the other for the "color". I thought that might appeal to someone making a high school graduation gift. The blue and red sample is just three fabrics with a different color fabric in each of the two blocks. Again, that would make a nice graduation quilt.<p></p><p>I also have a lap quilt with scrappy brights on a black background. Unfortunately I am away from the computer that has that photo on it.</p><p>Monday I assembled Square Dance, an old Rainbow Scrap Challenge Quilt (circa 2020).</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg-Ofw7Z_21qXjl595UyqENdAU-FSSlKjvahqcHX1L01Di9nk88GvJDwShE9Re9LnUgdQt4KlycyJcFsDIqIcggknxGmS_fiPOFYk-pBFkwFXNR34-W6Uw77Z4b-N-gltBHaNigrXNpxubM4nzhtiC0Wm3ne3jEGHk7o7WOidfUxxx8Y6zVNULrVlGuQMo" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg-Ofw7Z_21qXjl595UyqENdAU-FSSlKjvahqcHX1L01Di9nk88GvJDwShE9Re9LnUgdQt4KlycyJcFsDIqIcggknxGmS_fiPOFYk-pBFkwFXNR34-W6Uw77Z4b-N-gltBHaNigrXNpxubM4nzhtiC0Wm3ne3jEGHk7o7WOidfUxxx8Y6zVNULrVlGuQMo=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />I cut the borders for it from the same fabric as the side setting triangles but want to wait till I have a large table to lay it out and properly measure for them. It will measure about 54" x 65" with the borders.<p></p><p>Today's challenge is going to be Strippy Stars, a Jo Morton class I took at Indiana Heritage Quilt Show in 2008. Talk about a moldy oldy! More on that later.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-13610789508396537932024-01-06T10:22:00.001-06:002024-01-06T10:29:49.711-06:00Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2024<p>For new readers, the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is coordinated by Angela at <a href="https://superscrappy.blogspot.com/2024/01/scraphappy-saturday-1-of-2024.html"><i>soscrappy</i></a>. She chooses a color each month and you can do whatever you choose with that color. Most of us choose a project that can be interpreted in many colors .... and by the end of the year we hope to have a completed top.</p><p>I just couldn't get into RSC last year, even though I had several partially completed projects from previous years. In fact, I have FIVE unfinished RSC projects!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhHMjwTMA2UkVRIBBiXazoklWHvuses2Ekpx4D3TzQVzU9rx1ZcvLd5eKzucAKFIKqerydOT_F66zzg0ANbV5_T5yYlEceVRy3aJ0sHm7qj5IHIlc6TWlUi3y5ktqlyKDt70VB8XgaMMzmK_wE3F6knQgMBamHPVS1-YKbYi2bEPCJ3NzDac3RNO-dLqj8" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhHMjwTMA2UkVRIBBiXazoklWHvuses2Ekpx4D3TzQVzU9rx1ZcvLd5eKzucAKFIKqerydOT_F66zzg0ANbV5_T5yYlEceVRy3aJ0sHm7qj5IHIlc6TWlUi3y5ktqlyKDt70VB8XgaMMzmK_wE3F6knQgMBamHPVS1-YKbYi2bEPCJ3NzDac3RNO-dLqj8=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">At least one of these projects dates back to 2020!</div><p></p><p>So my goal this year is to work on one of the five each week in the color of the month. The one that requires the least amount of work will fall on the fifth week when it happens. </p><p>This week I worked on Chaser blocks; it will be my first week project every month. I determined that I need seven blocks of each of the nine colors I have started in order to make a top large enough to pass on to White Oak Women's Exchange (WOWE). They make quilts for dialysis and chemo patients and sometimes they sell my finished quilts in their fund-raising boutique. As it happened, I needed three more blocks to make the necessary nine. Mission accomplished!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiwHmQ7fCeA8Jcrbfcxj_uwdZFMvGn0eyKbsQ2aTZEPqUHQMwt3Ii4_Wmzo5rp_15DH4KaCgockbCSVANR_Pzp-FndHVZ4CP1OyFFiIt8gvR7IZDrzphIvC5myHBIJaGwJAykAXRbGC9odQtyH7xVhVelJ_JIt7UTGJ7mcFs3Rvfv8TFoZCakenYhTg99s" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiwHmQ7fCeA8Jcrbfcxj_uwdZFMvGn0eyKbsQ2aTZEPqUHQMwt3Ii4_Wmzo5rp_15DH4KaCgockbCSVANR_Pzp-FndHVZ4CP1OyFFiIt8gvR7IZDrzphIvC5myHBIJaGwJAykAXRbGC9odQtyH7xVhVelJ_JIt7UTGJ7mcFs3Rvfv8TFoZCakenYhTg99s" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="text-align: left;">Next week I'm scheduled to work on Square Dance. (Unfortunately I have misplaced the cover so can't show you what it's supposed to look like.)</p><p>And then on a recent trip to a local quilt shop I bought the fabric in the center of this block which has been the inspiration for the entire quilt.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiaUoYaWj6GTx4qRjua7Lz7QmBo8CTITUS_3ZIwQJtFW4HFrqGi509bWhPXwGHaL_MIG17I7px7EgzXAIyDB_jYtAdHFSkFV0Zo0L-sjI-ZB2htlyiy23hoywjry8Dwa-Ta1l4H1vvl80mJpm1dTIa9piemGBjZkosn1s1KpfxHPs8rzM5V7TBs-sFF6K4" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="3010" data-original-width="3024" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiaUoYaWj6GTx4qRjua7Lz7QmBo8CTITUS_3ZIwQJtFW4HFrqGi509bWhPXwGHaL_MIG17I7px7EgzXAIyDB_jYtAdHFSkFV0Zo0L-sjI-ZB2htlyiy23hoywjry8Dwa-Ta1l4H1vvl80mJpm1dTIa9piemGBjZkosn1s1KpfxHPs8rzM5V7TBs-sFF6K4" width="241" /></a></div></div><p>It's a weird shade of blue, tends toward the grey side, and I've had a devil of a time finding something to go with. I did find one semi-solid, but had to rely on the other colors in the focus fabric to curate a collection of fabric for the project. </p><p>After an unfortunate incident on New Year's Day when I thought I might have broken a big toe (fortunately just sprained), I decided to take it easy at Devo on Tuesday and, rather than tote a machine and all the accoutrements, I used my time to cut out the new quilt. Once home, I headed down to the studio to get a start..</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj6UBOC8qcZsB3U2gfWRDZ8-9E9I-9Zu6KzwvJ3jHXTWl_Qvx5DPx1iPzAPFhxFib57K-Iz2OwVGip9UVFcbbUNV2XPjOk_HeoCm7LaD_2WwTHEOz1SL3Ht8EinqoExEuta06TjLm6H_m_otBqDtZb61ujOREfGTUzPt8j8VuuZE7XDVDcWlTHy-EMqSXg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="3196" data-original-width="3024" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj6UBOC8qcZsB3U2gfWRDZ8-9E9I-9Zu6KzwvJ3jHXTWl_Qvx5DPx1iPzAPFhxFib57K-Iz2OwVGip9UVFcbbUNV2XPjOk_HeoCm7LaD_2WwTHEOz1SL3Ht8EinqoExEuta06TjLm6H_m_otBqDtZb61ujOREfGTUzPt8j8VuuZE7XDVDcWlTHy-EMqSXg" width="227" /></a></div></div><p></p><p style="text-align: center;">I see that I need to up the blue.</p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-79611731673012848982023-12-30T13:17:00.001-06:002023-12-30T13:17:18.326-06:00Five Pounds!!!<p>That's what a week of Christmas celebrations will add to you.</p><p>We actually had a wonderful holiday with our family in Arkansas. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi4zBOn44ceZxvGuXz97unPS-r1HvXl8AIqmRCJ3yQQepDMyCJmVSRlmblTs9-htny76hKNJct7k5EkBTODXspuHdfpklwlFMsKfbr6TsiZHIpsRjSfOxZehYCwbgAaEociD0o1N3CZbwJ7xAa3zrueKJxEz1ChoNx52c89jOgN1sWUzSGF47oO58cp8LE" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi4zBOn44ceZxvGuXz97unPS-r1HvXl8AIqmRCJ3yQQepDMyCJmVSRlmblTs9-htny76hKNJct7k5EkBTODXspuHdfpklwlFMsKfbr6TsiZHIpsRjSfOxZehYCwbgAaEociD0o1N3CZbwJ7xAa3zrueKJxEz1ChoNx52c89jOgN1sWUzSGF47oO58cp8LE=w240-h320" width="240" /></a></div><br />Lots of games, including a hotly-contested Ticket to Ride Old West.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwTxQ8JOQyUsvCZGaWJ7d4DJvIWZrORNa10ysO_Cpt7Nczya6At0GIwPYaEK0EPy6ak9GsIrwdCGt2ZY3dHK7VAf-qx2mixCfEK8Q6AfNUPAEiEb6ALwaGhCLqJRNCkoy_vllMOcOCSCQwMg2o1UN0H03KYmfrnOm7vAAIV_3nvxYEddopeIc04nIM2R8" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwTxQ8JOQyUsvCZGaWJ7d4DJvIWZrORNa10ysO_Cpt7Nczya6At0GIwPYaEK0EPy6ak9GsIrwdCGt2ZY3dHK7VAf-qx2mixCfEK8Q6AfNUPAEiEb6ALwaGhCLqJRNCkoy_vllMOcOCSCQwMg2o1UN0H03KYmfrnOm7vAAIV_3nvxYEddopeIc04nIM2R8" width="320" /></a></div><br />I didn't win 😒 but it's always fun to play with our competitive crowd. Right before we left town I was madly turning out coasters -- first for the guild's mug rug challenge and then for family stocking stuffers.</p><p><i>By the way, the guild members made close to 200 mug rugs for nurses at the county medical center and hospice house. </i> </p><p>I think I made 8 for the nurses and, while I was in high gear, I kept whipping them out for the family. So easy that I thought my loyal readers might appreciate a tutorial. Unfortunately, I don't remember the source for this pattern. But here goes:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Start with five 5" fabric squares. <i> It's fun to pick a theme and use at least two different fabrics on the "pretty" side. </i></li><li>Select one square to be the "bottom" of the coaster. Fold and press the other four fabric squares into right triangles.</li><li>Cut a batting square at 4-3/4".</li><li>Center batting square on the wrong side of the "bottom" square and press to make it stick (just hand-rubbing works).</li></ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhGviJI4lu_FIMZTfL9P9MgIv1dWoL_JbMmGDWzaGZvqMiOTnaxOIb4KcOfbg6tN2sqU2kn2yGHoQOE8Kau3eRJ7MdmXYGKAuQq4ZP5pjWh2dJdlqWjK7kjQRt0krWT4qksnNEze-rDCokfnoQ9I92VQBzdBjULo6R-NFqWY0sohGDWRjUERKg9oXiGwmI" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhGviJI4lu_FIMZTfL9P9MgIv1dWoL_JbMmGDWzaGZvqMiOTnaxOIb4KcOfbg6tN2sqU2kn2yGHoQOE8Kau3eRJ7MdmXYGKAuQq4ZP5pjWh2dJdlqWjK7kjQRt0krWT4qksnNEze-rDCokfnoQ9I92VQBzdBjULo6R-NFqWY0sohGDWRjUERKg9oXiGwmI=w173-h200" width="173" /></a></div><br /><br /><span style="text-align: left;">Turn that bottom square (with the batting stuck to it) right side up and place one of the triangles in the upper right corner</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjBYHzlAjhz4qmpANZuLMax8q4Cz5TTDiM2WJd6uqhqEy4VbcAFkTqvdrH5YF4Sw2z-grbw_Q0lGj82gPVMTmdXTvaN60vZHpq-cc9f6NdI8JGw4lCtPI6OBQRzGmGggLel95WG7Xsey8j9sx0BEAe01qAcHnr5PhgnVMuMRX7HLjGjj9Iw5oBKbYvGemY" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjBYHzlAjhz4qmpANZuLMax8q4Cz5TTDiM2WJd6uqhqEy4VbcAFkTqvdrH5YF4Sw2z-grbw_Q0lGj82gPVMTmdXTvaN60vZHpq-cc9f6NdI8JGw4lCtPI6OBQRzGmGggLel95WG7Xsey8j9sx0BEAe01qAcHnr5PhgnVMuMRX7HLjGjj9Iw5oBKbYvGemY" width="180" /></a></div><br />The 2nd triangle goes in the upper left corner, overlapping the first triangle<div><br /><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjDRqcoy_Mvtu4yhl1ZNuZsXFX6SQUttuvYqP6QQ9rpS-KXaXQ1R5gD5yjYFW9DA10AoInbDDaphSWinFvt1ti48FEZ8Fsev1L99yNvnKGUhlDL-MbISjdji0XdJPS5YzwmwPk2c4y6ELOCuIgG_Zp7xI3X1Ds865YwFixP-rZ9hA-rHh-_UcNSb8csiOQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjDRqcoy_Mvtu4yhl1ZNuZsXFX6SQUttuvYqP6QQ9rpS-KXaXQ1R5gD5yjYFW9DA10AoInbDDaphSWinFvt1ti48FEZ8Fsev1L99yNvnKGUhlDL-MbISjdji0XdJPS5YzwmwPk2c4y6ELOCuIgG_Zp7xI3X1Ds865YwFixP-rZ9hA-rHh-_UcNSb8csiOQ" width="180" /></a></div><br />The 3rd triangle goes in the lower left corner, again overlapping the earlier triangles.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjzGIUP5a56PcfE_l4We_sCvU1z3p8VdYf9RtMtVi_9IIRIyefcf9aSvnfZdWcfbp9s_CDjwgNYSjSEVBDattzi32pWYzCOep7boQexPWXDCCOnT6yDub8RU5RKy3PMe6EPLBdAm9WR_2IQLP41F3_1iZVpsL0orXXFjBrBr_QEHZEeLVvctTD3MVHSMcc" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjzGIUP5a56PcfE_l4We_sCvU1z3p8VdYf9RtMtVi_9IIRIyefcf9aSvnfZdWcfbp9s_CDjwgNYSjSEVBDattzi32pWYzCOep7boQexPWXDCCOnT6yDub8RU5RKy3PMe6EPLBdAm9WR_2IQLP41F3_1iZVpsL0orXXFjBrBr_QEHZEeLVvctTD3MVHSMcc" width="180" /></a></div><br /></div><div>The 4th triangle is a bit tricky. I have been trying to weed out some stuff and all I've accomplished is a bigger mess.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg1sYNDDg7gQYkTIQdQL03KzUKCqWIykDiRCPWSW7xdrvP-kBO4hOfGBIbMqm2g9PK_VTRzlze_-KcKBfEgIRhy1LsDsua6xp1m-inYgv4fkD9o2NqWfMJJGyyjtBiMkMJM17T8BvCAg86sNOz_-WYp88n2odIVda3ZAG9qHQsGV8_yW1Wj1vQNwGMzjLw" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg1sYNDDg7gQYkTIQdQL03KzUKCqWIykDiRCPWSW7xdrvP-kBO4hOfGBIbMqm2g9PK_VTRzlze_-KcKBfEgIRhy1LsDsua6xp1m-inYgv4fkD9o2NqWfMJJGyyjtBiMkMJM17T8BvCAg86sNOz_-WYp88n2odIVda3ZAG9qHQsGV8_yW1Wj1vQNwGMzjLw=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />That's my cutting table. Kinda makes it difficult to get much done in the quilting department! You may recall that back in <a href="https://hillsidequilter12.blogspot.com/2023/10/never-assume.html">October</a> I had a failed start with On the Up and Up, an <i>AP&Q </i>pattern that I had seen on Nann's blog (<i>With Strings Attached</i>). I had assumed my pre-cut squares were 2-1/2" when, in fact, they were 2-5/8".<div><br /><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWZ64kXwxTnthUIlS5sukwmen9VKGZP7RECb8BregofajkIShx2KHSpTHTo-Pg2GiNxBbnuVvzAzmPHMsZ6X_Cls2InvfMksMpgKG2s4dP3p4D8xTo_h6cKBLBwDhvWj1KI6G0cuFMuPwpQmOxbXg-UUrUZci5oqJdET2_Vgf7305zyI4V-nEEIky0jPk" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="400" data-original-width="300" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWZ64kXwxTnthUIlS5sukwmen9VKGZP7RECb8BregofajkIShx2KHSpTHTo-Pg2GiNxBbnuVvzAzmPHMsZ6X_Cls2InvfMksMpgKG2s4dP3p4D8xTo_h6cKBLBwDhvWj1KI6G0cuFMuPwpQmOxbXg-UUrUZci5oqJdET2_Vgf7305zyI4V-nEEIky0jPk" width="180" /></a></div><br />So I decided to go back to that baby quilt to jump-start my sewing mojo. I wasn't too far into the project when I realized I was constructing the blocks incorrectly. Because the pattern download was in black and white, I had a hard time distinguishing what was supposed to be background squares. I had to deconstruct the blocks in order to deconstruct strips of three squares. I let the bits and pieces "mature" on my design wall for a bit. Maybe a quick and easy project like a jelly roll race would give me satisfaction ...</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhNtC-2lm0x9gdjcqweXAxNExtqDCekzwbnb8mHXhZm8msgaqBIPBKOs0X1yLgXUDhJu-se_vF7sOk86vO66gtAZ-yHk3eYS89Ky6qRoMK-BTgnxObg8xBp2dumoW7BFs2H5qE-OLziYIkTMv_klKq5G84XdZq26SAb2I3gB0RWgPeKazq0ru1J7axWW3g" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhNtC-2lm0x9gdjcqweXAxNExtqDCekzwbnb8mHXhZm8msgaqBIPBKOs0X1yLgXUDhJu-se_vF7sOk86vO66gtAZ-yHk3eYS89Ky6qRoMK-BTgnxObg8xBp2dumoW7BFs2H5qE-OLziYIkTMv_klKq5G84XdZq26SAb2I3gB0RWgPeKazq0ru1J7axWW3g=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />... We are fortunate when we get together at Loucon Camp and Retreat Center near Leitchfield, Kentucky that we have lots of room to spread out with plenty of tables and great lighting. But the biggest joy is the inspiration received from other quilters.</p><p>I have been pretty productive. First project was putting a binding on a very large quilt. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture before I put it back in the car. Next I added side borders to Cursor (I call it Lost) that I finished several years ago.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjM4R5RzOq8619FrPlT3Em92pflRkzYJDMCIl3e5oK3ZkHoHKxi6FUv0vvzSyjzO92aQaf_1XzUOIO9fq6jaP04ZOcXshZwBOeNi0QwcYC1fZJ9FTgDB32FFASGQjQ2LAJL1H8sWVYoBeCeOJuo61jwujgCGCFwD5Cbfl9biw8WjNR3cIkhWNnPqn0PhKQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjM4R5RzOq8619FrPlT3Em92pflRkzYJDMCIl3e5oK3ZkHoHKxi6FUv0vvzSyjzO92aQaf_1XzUOIO9fq6jaP04ZOcXshZwBOeNi0QwcYC1fZJ9FTgDB32FFASGQjQ2LAJL1H8sWVYoBeCeOJuo61jwujgCGCFwD5Cbfl9biw8WjNR3cIkhWNnPqn0PhKQ=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />Sadly, I did not have enough fabric for the top and bottom borders ... so it went back in the box. I'm hoping I have more at home; otherwise I'll have to consider another option. Now that I look at it, I think the blue was intended to be the binding because that's how much short I am ... Note to Self: Leave notes to self!<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">Then I turned my attention to Shadow of the Bear Paw, started at Quilt Camp in October 2018!</span></div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi2dOPSWUULZstmxlKKsjG76XjRfk5GU_gguKjZmFXZiuybFDGL8URPUAmIBNAzC23Q-MrKbbT3j2AzxX2FCh_L-hmCAZrCIAotycLt84aFaM20lJNxoIePbllApO4sgVOJ3zOM9BOwEOwv2TfBudzzCje6PXqtjus2XPb0VPSEGisMJ344LsKlypb6C6k" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi2dOPSWUULZstmxlKKsjG76XjRfk5GU_gguKjZmFXZiuybFDGL8URPUAmIBNAzC23Q-MrKbbT3j2AzxX2FCh_L-hmCAZrCIAotycLt84aFaM20lJNxoIePbllApO4sgVOJ3zOM9BOwEOwv2TfBudzzCje6PXqtjus2XPb0VPSEGisMJ344LsKlypb6C6k=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />I finished five more very fiddley blocks and decided I was done, at least for the time being. The pattern includes some uneven log cabin blocks that I'm not thrilled with so I need time to consider how I will set these blocks and/or if I need to make more. I have made bear paw blocks with the scraps so I may work up a design with the paw blocks as a border. Stay tuned!<p></p><p>I next brought out a random batik project that had no directions as to what I intended to do. But while I was digging through my pattern drawer for the Shadow pattern at home, I came across an EQ plan for the batik blocks. This is the result ...</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjmHO-rZ54-Upma0nrDhTzkYg_Ud47jVMqxlO_CaiFHoB9T9i1uv1zDCClgAtXj_lKyVssCY2uPht1QOQBeAmsbqdiQsb7P8RGhsYOLYb5Cde_6XjQKhys2jpgKaM6_mkc-wDsXbBX8JDjGBu_aH1Fqljj13l-WeN3XEuS_2xn7fA6OmT5PUhf0wh9laUQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="589" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjmHO-rZ54-Upma0nrDhTzkYg_Ud47jVMqxlO_CaiFHoB9T9i1uv1zDCClgAtXj_lKyVssCY2uPht1QOQBeAmsbqdiQsb7P8RGhsYOLYb5Cde_6XjQKhys2jpgKaM6_mkc-wDsXbBX8JDjGBu_aH1Fqljj13l-WeN3XEuS_2xn7fA6OmT5PUhf0wh9laUQ=w295-h320" width="295" /></a></div><br />(Sorry, I cut off the bottom in my photo.) I will need to do something to stabilize the edges, but it's finally together and I love it! I still have a box full of the four-patches, though, so look for yet another batik project in my future.<p></p><p>I added borders to Chunky Churn Dash ... it will be donated to Devo encouragement quilts.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjLP3KEB1AmPPd9yw53DGE6Fnevh33Mbc3Aw2LHv20W0o7WSKSo44fQw5LRgzAhnSRpW3uZ933Ypn6Wk8WUTYY8XqveE844fz81VWI-t4iNUyhSlX3Kl7cb6Iip9jkp68uZQqIyRKz6vzyDBC-aTb3IpJxr4ca5GigwaiU1vvKNpU06DWh_NxQj19h8elQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="601" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjLP3KEB1AmPPd9yw53DGE6Fnevh33Mbc3Aw2LHv20W0o7WSKSo44fQw5LRgzAhnSRpW3uZ933Ypn6Wk8WUTYY8XqveE844fz81VWI-t4iNUyhSlX3Kl7cb6Iip9jkp68uZQqIyRKz6vzyDBC-aTb3IpJxr4ca5GigwaiU1vvKNpU06DWh_NxQj19h8elQ=w375-h400" width="375" /></a></div><p></p><p>Today has been a day of starts and stops ... not much to show yet so I'll wait to report more tomorrow.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-67882531674596654182023-11-06T04:43:00.000-06:002023-11-06T04:43:27.007-06:00Fall Has Fell<p> ...to quote some comic character whose name I forget -- probably Pogo.</p><p>Remember that maple tree I posted last week on Thursday? Without excess funds for recreation, I tried to make "events" at home (not to mention getting help with the workload). Cooking with the boys was one of those activities. We found a recipe on Jimmy Dean's Sausage for stuffed zucchini boats. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj0lKQODpmN5VBw5UvHCOy4HTzau30gNfUQNVVQmghsRt9c4zwBCZEPVKfBEN_JtFWcX-rHFySthEIurYSN-DOxbvXBfxEbb4tjdMADHu8E6KEEEcT6wLW2X8XeC2sD44Me_yKM0td7pCukkmN-xB81f9ghpz1rGdPfTp5X2A1lOg5QiPTff-ckm-PGkdo" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj0lKQODpmN5VBw5UvHCOy4HTzau30gNfUQNVVQmghsRt9c4zwBCZEPVKfBEN_JtFWcX-rHFySthEIurYSN-DOxbvXBfxEbb4tjdMADHu8E6KEEEcT6wLW2X8XeC2sD44Me_yKM0td7pCukkmN-xB81f9ghpz1rGdPfTp5X2A1lOg5QiPTff-ckm-PGkdo" width="320" /></a></div><br />First of all, zucchini was totally foreign to us, but I bought some and we tried (and liked!) the recipe. Secondly, we had never used thyme. We were so intrigued by the flavor that we came up with a totally new recipe, Thyme-ly Chicken. I still have that recipe card in my older boy's hand writing!<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi7XOCLrtn2iFezSmxe6DyfcIYR3RYwmFZzII3e4btYNUNndoK0eVpSGyaSokrHSWH7fW0QIKpzLtiKX0lUv11ez09o6KSp7GQj57qhvY7ar4VP_r5Vw38td_5Hum3-B98kgAljqpNtat5fYcEjOynwapGAGzpsKQegoRbhRVfsRIhkPLylMJvLkbYmLiQ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="369" data-original-width="640" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi7XOCLrtn2iFezSmxe6DyfcIYR3RYwmFZzII3e4btYNUNndoK0eVpSGyaSokrHSWH7fW0QIKpzLtiKX0lUv11ez09o6KSp7GQj57qhvY7ar4VP_r5Vw38td_5Hum3-B98kgAljqpNtat5fYcEjOynwapGAGzpsKQegoRbhRVfsRIhkPLylMJvLkbYmLiQ" width="320" /></a></div><br />Well, I made zucchini boats for supper last night and texted a picture to both boys recalling how it made me think of those early days. <p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgOaT5GcRdeSspsbCk4D2g-LHGYTS1gd-qNE2dhvFsK8ulhc4jQPviFB4H4mRL3MFV51GUfVroUuNm94Mo5hxbNWHhczQbOO1Vfm7zJz9Pk7OrRYRryUsT6P3xjvlnE2VsitGfFz0omxdmDs9iqWvA8yvq1R3Aak886h4vtZRSEBet3RN5QyH3ZMtTlBJ4" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="450" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgOaT5GcRdeSspsbCk4D2g-LHGYTS1gd-qNE2dhvFsK8ulhc4jQPviFB4H4mRL3MFV51GUfVroUuNm94Mo5hxbNWHhczQbOO1Vfm7zJz9Pk7OrRYRryUsT6P3xjvlnE2VsitGfFz0omxdmDs9iqWvA8yvq1R3Aak886h4vtZRSEBet3RN5QyH3ZMtTlBJ4=w282-h400" width="282" /></a></div><br />The response from them both was enough to keep this old heart a-ticking for a long thyme!<p></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-43989974272810454532023-10-19T05:42:00.001-05:002023-10-19T05:42:53.890-05:00Never Assume<p>You know what they say about assumptions ... well I proved it true this week. </p><p>I had seen a free pattern in <i><a href="https://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quilt-patterns/quilt-throws/on-the-up-and-up">American Patchwork and Quilting</a></i> that I thought would be easy for comfort or encouragement quilts. Since Devo was cancelled on Tuesday, I decided to devote my day to sewing anyway so I headed down to the studio to give the pattern a try.</p><p>The pattern calls for 3-1/2" strips and squares, but since I have so many 2-1/2" inch strips and squares I decided to convert the pattern. I picked a background fabric and some coordinating charm squares that could easily be cut into four 2-1/2" squares. I made a couple of sample blocks and they were just awful! Certainly not picture-worthy; you'll just have to take my word for it.</p><p>Then, as I glanced over my shoulder, I saw a stack of bright squares that would work in this pattern so I set about cutting 2-1/2" strips of a an older background with lots of bright colors. I stitched enough squares into a strip of threes to make 13 blocks and cut the appropriate number of background pieces.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjS-7yoLtUP6DTCcK6S0n1vN43wwqb2NWYvNVGIQkbXVfhd9V7nCe8tB609Y_FXRWIF7y1MnhD7K7wRS6pqQmPXX6tlKynETy8gUeWpRn8o53ABzqosSAjtMemHUcSP3g2Rm457uVAq4QXsMjrXk7g9b_USTlgk81E-STPw-7JC3J2njiqQDQTXxFeP53A" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjS-7yoLtUP6DTCcK6S0n1vN43wwqb2NWYvNVGIQkbXVfhd9V7nCe8tB609Y_FXRWIF7y1MnhD7K7wRS6pqQmPXX6tlKynETy8gUeWpRn8o53ABzqosSAjtMemHUcSP3g2Rm457uVAq4QXsMjrXk7g9b_USTlgk81E-STPw-7JC3J2njiqQDQTXxFeP53A=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><br />Once I started combining squares with strips I saw a slight discrepancy in the size between the bright squares and the newly-cut background which I figured I could accommodate in the seams. Then I realized the error of my assumptions: The bright squares are 2-5/8" !!!<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi37Saza7ZxcuGs2S_aBUs9E0F_kFss0w2EkXtfod0er563DATVhwN4eZEIa17YOWc8-d6lQxXHtgFNMv4pY_pRzTBTkxZQAgLQfrhgCaKnzr9kl4xiM9QR8fVjIvexD9uwbTV6E3BbuTocTyepJPvzy3YaxaWITe-DKvxvx3Qn61cUzKbJqXvBz3Va7iU" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi37Saza7ZxcuGs2S_aBUs9E0F_kFss0w2EkXtfod0er563DATVhwN4eZEIa17YOWc8-d6lQxXHtgFNMv4pY_pRzTBTkxZQAgLQfrhgCaKnzr9kl4xiM9QR8fVjIvexD9uwbTV6E3BbuTocTyepJPvzy3YaxaWITe-DKvxvx3Qn61cUzKbJqXvBz3Va7iU=w300-h400" width="300" /></a></div><p>No way can I accommodate that in the seam when every block has three of those squares right through the center of the block. </p><p></p><p>I threw in the towel and poured a glass of wine! The seam ripper will be busy today.</p><p><i>I know it's been a while since I posted. I am well and I've done quite a bit of sewing; it's just a matter of getting the photos into the blog. I have found a work-around until I have the chance to clean out the cloud. </i><i>I</i><i>t will be high priority come November!</i></p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-53747304768013311362023-09-29T12:36:00.000-05:002023-09-29T12:36:01.032-05:00No More Snails!<p>Yesterday I put the final paper-pieced corner on this little beauty. I bought the panel at <a href="https://www.backporchfabrics.com/">Back Porch Fabrics</a> in Pacific Grove, CA in early February. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMz_ja5F1xYkBIcYrYx2vZ-UwGHetd3PbhPI2l10Zx0YIPD1FYKK3q8EYAPOKMHUXyQ_ORz4kmgNRmUYZLY5Hhg5G6BXaaQXeZGFrwLKeMiZ1vSFDUDNt-fF2zGfrGAEBVSxMmCo3p43TpYm7IDvUAci0mwMgPR96AwNWAScQDAPi_8BISXR3koNwXHv4/s640/IMG_1361.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMz_ja5F1xYkBIcYrYx2vZ-UwGHetd3PbhPI2l10Zx0YIPD1FYKK3q8EYAPOKMHUXyQ_ORz4kmgNRmUYZLY5Hhg5G6BXaaQXeZGFrwLKeMiZ1vSFDUDNt-fF2zGfrGAEBVSxMmCo3p43TpYm7IDvUAci0mwMgPR96AwNWAScQDAPi_8BISXR3koNwXHv4/w300-h400/IMG_1361.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><p>I don't remember if I got the pattern at the same time (and at this point I can't even find the pattern to provide proper credit). Later in February I picked up the cream and green grunge at <a href="https://www.whittlesfabrics.com/">Whittle's</a>. And quickly put the borders and first corner on ... then it sat until yesterday. I have picked a pretty floral for the back and plan to get it quilted before the end of the year.</p><p>This morning I woke with a foot cramp a little before 5 so I decided to go ahead and get up. Once the coffee was ready, I headed downstairs to finish the last 8 snails' trail blocks. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiEoP4C8l_fX1E4jg-dL2KJ1OSRWW7ihLs_WLF_yWTjaqpMuKI24Er7exsYuEJyikpBD_Gf3S9QlX2NfclUe4n-72QdZ9cinqQXjwRQJj6w5grcackSI_EFC4hks_U0wXqjKAZ-aNK2zKXCdh567kl1aY_6dlS3dhzCyVW_Mv9AP5KGRAAxObEGHj2ND0/s640/IMG_1365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiEoP4C8l_fX1E4jg-dL2KJ1OSRWW7ihLs_WLF_yWTjaqpMuKI24Er7exsYuEJyikpBD_Gf3S9QlX2NfclUe4n-72QdZ9cinqQXjwRQJj6w5grcackSI_EFC4hks_U0wXqjKAZ-aNK2zKXCdh567kl1aY_6dlS3dhzCyVW_Mv9AP5KGRAAxObEGHj2ND0/w300-h400/IMG_1365.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><p>They didn't go down easy, though. I was cruising along, pinning in my free time in front of the TV, and the last four had the third round TOTALLY wrong. Wish I had taken a picture. So it was rip and re-sew before I could get to the final round of triangles. Believe me, I was very cautious about what I was doing from there on. The snails are going back into timeout until a November retreat when I will have the pattern to show me what to do next.</p><p>With nothing major on my calendar today, I decided to move another project closer to the finish line. I started Judy Neimeyer's Summer Solstice in 2018. I made the 8 New York Beauty blocks in the class, but balked at doing the Lone Star with paper piecing. I used strip piecing, instead and used class time at the recent LAB retreat to get that much done. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmI9mlOO5nfcQHLyWci4U_eqQ6jNeAyxQ9cD2xc4K1aAmorHvAoDQVvtCAVlqhnV2tQQia4juLX3RdC7l6TFqVjn46f92YaLxSBx6Sk0xs_Sx-_w-zkg12TDpJ7oXoXtYEp6LnV3QCscU_mTMUrcdHiVygM6tk7QVABuNdBSPnPpI6xUbw2SSLVKXewOw/s640/IMG_1366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmI9mlOO5nfcQHLyWci4U_eqQ6jNeAyxQ9cD2xc4K1aAmorHvAoDQVvtCAVlqhnV2tQQia4juLX3RdC7l6TFqVjn46f92YaLxSBx6Sk0xs_Sx-_w-zkg12TDpJ7oXoXtYEp6LnV3QCscU_mTMUrcdHiVygM6tk7QVABuNdBSPnPpI6xUbw2SSLVKXewOw/w300-h400/IMG_1366.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p>Today I focused on the borders that will square this piece out to 58" square. I had the great idea that strip piecing would also work, but figuring out the details made my head hurt. But I finally got back into the sewing room last week after getting the machine back in place, though I can't say the pathways through the sewing room are anyway close to cleared. </p><p>The first thing I tackled was assembling the rows of chunky churn dash (I've since learned the block is also called 4-square) at Devo last Tuesday.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uQVvRm7NSsWhUe6doIspyyi1sHczoqrgCoy2WQsOA2FZOfyqAIo7kP4H4NNd0JMrU4Tf9ofSHXaxV6XKw-degy-B2-Jwcl374t76M0s0TRPr0g9A9j18S8I39XRKyaWJf44otykcLiMcWfhKBwNO9jcwZ0y16EPUFxveRWtfJeiH5MtO9tTaZ_Aihx4/s640/chunky.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uQVvRm7NSsWhUe6doIspyyi1sHczoqrgCoy2WQsOA2FZOfyqAIo7kP4H4NNd0JMrU4Tf9ofSHXaxV6XKw-degy-B2-Jwcl374t76M0s0TRPr0g9A9j18S8I39XRKyaWJf44otykcLiMcWfhKBwNO9jcwZ0y16EPUFxveRWtfJeiH5MtO9tTaZ_Aihx4/w300-h400/chunky.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><p>I am auditioning fabrics for borders. And it was just that! Cindy is a great teacher and fun to study with. </p><p>We learned to use a ruler designed by <a href="https://www.robinruthdesign.com/">Robin Ruth</a> to make the construction of compass points with strip piecing. Yes, I know, that sounds impossible, but it works! However, word of warning: the ruler is NOT intuitive! The accompanying book is required.</p><p>Look at the wonderful work our group of retreaters did in 3.5 days:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqTkI__iXJ2NbCs5Z-yYRUril6U41jSYaaqFPact1gYSroF2zAxFsm0u4tmwqL4uCSZVcEAUohjdyIBne3Y_ejSi7mIWyxKV04A643SIW3lPUn8VjHHHx_ordRItRt2GF_bK2Ka3zYihI9xvTaHwpFEGVdcOPxETJ1AhpsSZyNlXY0wCrIx_er2Lbp56M/s2048/lab2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqTkI__iXJ2NbCs5Z-yYRUril6U41jSYaaqFPact1gYSroF2zAxFsm0u4tmwqL4uCSZVcEAUohjdyIBne3Y_ejSi7mIWyxKV04A643SIW3lPUn8VjHHHx_ordRItRt2GF_bK2Ka3zYihI9xvTaHwpFEGVdcOPxETJ1AhpsSZyNlXY0wCrIx_er2Lbp56M/w640-h480/lab2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>I'm the one on the left end who looks like she's naked down below. Here's a closeup of what I accomplished.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFasaI2ceS7yRc1-6Uv7JZxesQ_jp5X1jW1y1nRVQwS8_cUAAT6nOuRy-TPu39wETki9I6EHaP4JXSdx4xyG7y5Y7UOn3hY1Gv_JgoaN3xB3cd3vrPyKGOuN3r-chuckP-JZh6r0_Iy6z1P3fnPGi7RxvAHgt6gXygUHQ7ReOjZw3VzPmIN3c9n0pNxJI/s1590/labme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1590" data-original-width="1193" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFasaI2ceS7yRc1-6Uv7JZxesQ_jp5X1jW1y1nRVQwS8_cUAAT6nOuRy-TPu39wETki9I6EHaP4JXSdx4xyG7y5Y7UOn3hY1Gv_JgoaN3xB3cd3vrPyKGOuN3r-chuckP-JZh6r0_Iy6z1P3fnPGi7RxvAHgt6gXygUHQ7ReOjZw3VzPmIN3c9n0pNxJI/w300-h400/labme.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><p>I'm not sure where I'll go from here. I was so impressed with what others did with their lone stars that I'm regretting not doing the whole project. But I don't have enough fabrics in my stash in those particular colors so I may need to go shopping.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-14008469170354934752023-09-14T19:10:00.000-05:002023-09-14T19:10:19.270-05:00Life's A Bear<p> And slowly this bear is coming out of hibernation. The old computer has been repaired and I have finally found my blog on it. So I thought it about time I check in.</p><p>After a busy catch-up week, I am retreating in the North Carolina mountains this week along with 23 other quilters at Cindy Williams' annual Life's a Bear retreat. This year we are at the Hinton Center in Hayesville, NC, working on Lollapalooza, a combination compass/lone star pattern.</p><p>I opted not to do the lone star portion of the quilt on the first day; instead, I worked on finishing an ages-old lone star. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDuk2L5BO7FsOBAFpaO8ryyXpoP-It0v6fotYqPmsmPawI-g4Dz0XLYy2sgKEhfYBfnRLHxStFiQ15b6VWtEGiE9doxRfnRLd5r_2-A4BvftHZan9fuvic5QE9lEKbHUlSmpXDpjKObvMOr9Hb0M7Xz7v9_9JPz_DiT_pkR4P-nROO6NJnPY9eetIHDgg/s2048/IMG_1307(1).JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDuk2L5BO7FsOBAFpaO8ryyXpoP-It0v6fotYqPmsmPawI-g4Dz0XLYy2sgKEhfYBfnRLHxStFiQ15b6VWtEGiE9doxRfnRLd5r_2-A4BvftHZan9fuvic5QE9lEKbHUlSmpXDpjKObvMOr9Hb0M7Xz7v9_9JPz_DiT_pkR4P-nROO6NJnPY9eetIHDgg/s320/IMG_1307(1).JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div>This is Judy Neimeyer's Summer Solstice. I took this class at Quilt Camp in 2018 because I thought it would be an "easy" introduction to paper piecing. I got the 8 New York Beauty blocks done in two days, but balked at paper piecing the lone star portion when I knew strip piecing to be much easier. Five years later I still need to square out the corners and add borders. But I'm happy to have moved it along.<div><br /></div><div>On day two I made the 18-inch outer compass and on day three I made the 8-inche center compass ... Sadly, no photos because apparently the Cloud doesn't extend to the mountains 😒</div><div><br /></div><div>I managed to put the compass all together today, then pulled out an old Judy Mathieson compass I started in a 2006/7 class with her. It is paper-pieced with the perforated freezer paper. A fun technique, but after unstitching multiple seams today, I threw in the towel.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm hoping the pictures will appear on the new computer when I get home tomorrow.</div><div><p><br /></p></div>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1703137784530530794.post-33042686821437109572023-09-07T18:50:00.003-05:002023-09-07T18:50:44.898-05:00I'm Back!<p> <b><span style="font-size: medium;">And back in business!</span></b></p><p>We have been back from our cruise for over two weeks. But, apparently, we picked up a virus from an insecure WiFi network on the ship and my computer totally crashed. The good news is my husband gave me a new computer for Christmas. But, being a senior, I was hesitant to learn something new -- until I had no recourse.</p><p>So I have finally been able to access my blog (totally by accident, I can assure you) on the new computer. The old computer has gone to the "Senior Geek" in our community to be restored. And hopefully by tomorrow I will have access to photos and all the other things I need to keep this thing going. </p><p><br /></p><p>Thank you for your patience.</p><p><br /></p>Libby in TNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13709701255260085505noreply@blogger.com3
