But progress is progress!
While I can only spend a short time each day at the sewing machine, I have been making progress on my project with the Cheddar Blues FQ bundle. I tried a new technique (for me). As I finished the blocks I put them randomly on the design wall. This is my first effort at a final layout.
This wall is next to my side of the bed, so every night I would look at it and think about what the final arrangement would be. Since I'm not able to stand at the wall for any length of time I took a photo and printed it. Then I cut it apart and rearranged the printed blocks on my very scruffy cutting mat.
I made a couple more adjustments before assembly began. I want to have this one wrapped up before I have back surgery (yet to be scheduled). Needless to say, once that happens I won't be sewing for a while!
I hope all my readers have avoided the recent riotous weather that's been rolling across the US. Both my boys' families, one in central Arkansas and the other near Nashville, were under tornado warnings but have been spared, thankfully. The Arkansas house is almost surrounded by water but still dry. Those of us on the Plateau (halfway between Nashville and Knoxville) have missed the really bad weather, though we have had some periods of high winds and the lake level is up from the rain.
Spring has definitely sprung but you'd think from the temps it is mid-summer! By Tuesday, though, we'll have frost warnings again. Talk about weather whiplash! It's hard to know what to wear...
Your cheddar and blue blocks are very pretty. That's a combination I have never tried.
ReplyDeleteYes, weather whiplash is a good name for it! We could have used a little of that rain, but just a little, not the downpours that area had.
Oh my goodness, I'm glad you and your family were spared. The weather reports from Arkansas and Tennessee have been horrifying.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have your design wall next to your bed! The cheddar blues look fantastic. Please keep us posted on your upcoming back surgery - will definitely pray for you.
glad your sons house in Conway didn't flood - central and east really got slammed.
ReplyDeleteOne person interviewed said, "Everything in the basement is floating but it didn't come to the first floor." And I promptly thought of my basement full of fabric . . . and remember back to the Fargo flood of 1997..........But! The shoofly corners really add to the sashing -- great idea. And a great colorway.
ReplyDeleteThat design in those colors is so pretty, Libby! I think your work around so that you don't have to stand at the design wall is a great idea. Will you do that again for other quilt projects. We're getting summer temperatures here, too, but dry as can be. Glad you've escaped the flooding and hope your sons continue that way, too.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you family escaped the worst of the weather this weekend. I like you layout, very pretty. Hopefully you can get this all done before back surgery. Getting older is so frustrating as your body decides you can't do certain things any more. Hopefully the back surgery is the last health issue for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have been safe from all of this weather. Your idea of printing your blocks and using them to find a good layout was a great one! Your quilt is so pretty in these colors. Back surgery... sigh... I hope it resolves the problems you've been having.
ReplyDeleteProgress IS progress! That's a good attitude to hold on to! I'm with you with the weather whiplash. It's crazy! Hopefully we'll have a more stable pattern from here on out! Hugs to you Libby -- hope y'all are doing well (including back surgery recovery)! :)
