About that last quilt

You may have already heard that in 2020 we will celebrate ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Women can vote!!

What you may not know is that Tennessee was the 36th state to ratify,

thus making it law, in August 1920.

100 years!!

Well, the Dakota County Star Quilters in St. Paul, MN is conducting a quilt challenge 

to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Women's Suffrage in the U.S.

Quilts will be displayed during the month of March 2020 at

the Dakota County Historical Society.

This is the quilt that I have entered via internet application;

it will be a couple of weeks before I know if it has been accepted.

The Perfect 36

 The Story Behind the Quilt

When Tennessee legislators were called back to a special session in August 1920 

to vote on ratification of the 19^th amendment, 

they were greeted by suffragists wearing yellow roses, and opponents wearing red roses.  

Thus the “War of the Roses” began. 

  By a single vote, Tennessee became the required 36^th state to ratify.  

When news reached Alice Paul, she sewed the 36th star onto her ratification banner and 

unfurled it from the balcony of Woman's Party headquarters in Washington, DC.

The colors for the suffrage campaign in the U.S. were violet, white, and yellow.

This quilt has 36 yellow rosebuds in a traditional 4-patch setting with violet pinwheels.

I will probably beef up the quilting ultimately but the deadline for submission was 12/31.
