Have you ever had that moment? When something is so evident you slap yourself upside your head and say "Duh!"
Someone in a recent blog post mentioned Mary's Triangles (if it sounds like you, speak up). It rang a bell with me for some reason but I couldn't remember why (I've slept since then). And I had no idea what a block would look like. So I "Googgled" Mary's Triangles. And guess what? It showed me a picture of my own quilt in progress and a blog post dated June 11, 2014!
DUH!
In that post I included a tutorial on how to make the blocks two-at-a-time without cutting any triangles. I thought I learned that in a workshop; but I give credit in my own tutorial to Sally Schneider, author of Scrap Mania, as my source.
Anyway, remembering all this got me inspired to start a new quilt! As if I need a new quilt! Actually, now that I've spent a few days making 4-inch blocks, I'm thinking about offering a class at a local shop. I just need to pick a project that incorporates the block. I came upon several options in "101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts. Stay tuned.....
We all have senior moments!☺️
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad my Mary's Triangles projects inspired you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for 'fessing up!
DeleteHaha Libby, that type of thing has happened to me before - you are not alone!
ReplyDeleteHello there! It's nice to see your post. I have Sally S's books from way back when. I understand the MT technique but I've only dabbled with it; I usually use the conventional method.
ReplyDeleteThe avantage is no triangles to cut or stitch!
DeleteWhat's really funny is that this is the second time you've discovered your own tutorial. Some years back you gave a class on Mary's triangles at the quilt guild and went through the same thing. I printed out your blog post then and still have it. It's an excellent contribution to the world's quilting knowledge.
ReplyDeletethat is funny - your own tutorial :) glad it was found
ReplyDeleteNow you have me wanting to try these blocks! I wonder if I have a ruler that would work. I'm going to play with these in the next couple days!
ReplyDeleteYou don't need a special ruler. A straight-edge will work but It does help to have the 90 degree angle on it. I've been using my 5-1/2" square.
DeleteI meant 45 degree!
DeleteI don't always associate a name with a pattern so I know how you feel. It's good you got reinspired.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see you back on your blog. I've missed you!!
ReplyDeleteHST blocks are so versatile, especially if you make them bigger. Looking forward to seeing what you end up creating.
ReplyDeleteWe've got SEW many quilts in our heads, on our beds and that we've donated, Libby. It's not really surprising you forgot one that you made in that pattern! Have fun with the new quilt.
