Tough Week

I hope all my friends who were in the path of Helene are safe and sound.  I sure feel sorry for those in western North Carolina.  Fortunately my friends who were retreating in NC were able to return home safely.  We had no issues here on the Plateau; not even enough rain to bring the lake up to the bottom of the dock.  But, then, we've been in a drought since summer.

I didn't get the best news from the neurologist this week and will have to get another myelogram before possible surgery.  Hoping whatever he decides will help me walk.  However, anticipating the worst, I've had Alex move my primary sewing machine up to the bedroom.

It sure felt good to stitch a little this week.  I'm thinking I will make this a permanent installation by bringing the Koala table up, as well.  I'll move my project boxes into a corner of the bedroom and add shelves in one of the guest bedrooms for fabric and supplies.

And to top off the tough week, my older brother passed away peacefully.  My other brother and I serendipitously visited him in the hospital on the same day while we were in Virginia earlier this month.  So now another long drive to Maryland is planned.

  1. I am sorry to hear the passing of your brother! Glad to see that you are setting up a sewing area that will work for you. Hoping you can find some peace sewing again and that the doctors can get to the bottom of your issue so that you can walk again.

  3. Sounds like you've had quite a wee. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, Libby, but glad you're safe from the storms. I'm sorry you didn't get good news from the neurologist either. That has been such a long haul for you. Nice that you can move the sewing equipment to somewhere more accessible for you. Sewing is always good therapy!

  4. That makes a lot of sense to move the sewing area upstairs. I have started moving more upstairs in my house too. I'm sorry to hear about your brother and glad he passed peacefully. It was nice you could see both of your brothers on your trip.

  5. Oh Libby I'm so sorry about your brother. How wonderful you got in that last visit. I'm sorry to hear about your medical issues. I pray that all turns out well for you!
I've been so worried about Jeanna from Slammin' the Screen Door blog. She was at retreat before the hurricane and lives in NC, and I wonder if she made it home before Helene wreaked such havoc. It is just the saddest thing what happened, I feel so sorry for all those affected!

  6. So sorry for your loss. And sorry to hear that you are still having issues with your injury. At least you can move the sewing spaces so you can still stitch. Fingers crossed you get good news from the testing and the doctor.

  7. I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering if you had any damage from this awful storm. I'm thankful you are fine, but will be sending up prayers for your next round of medical tests and doctors visits. It's so nice that you and your brother were able to visit your brother who died recently. May your memories of him bring you peace.
