Nuts and Bolts Retreat and Stash Update

First, the stash update.  I'm out of the hole, over the edge!!

Dusk to Dawn
In this Week:           7.25 yards
In year to Date:     49.75 yards
Out this Week:      10.5 yards
Out Year to Date:  52.5 yards
Net Used 2014:       2.75 yards

How did I accomplish that?  I finished Dusk to Dawn flimsy and made the back for a total of 4.25 yards.

I finished assembling Starstruck, added borders, and made the binding for another 4.25 yards.  I'll admit that I added 3 yards for the borders after I decided to make this a gift for a special person.

Starstruck

Comfort Quilt
In addition, I donated 2 yards for a quick comfort quilt.

A couple of my other planned projects didn't get out of the box -- or, at least, didn't stay out of the box.  But I did finish the center of Celtic Solstice.  I was short blue fabric for four BG blocks so I not only put them in the four corners, I turned the chevrons to make them stand out.  Now to the borders .....

Celtic Solstice.

We had a lovely group of 18 ladies for some or all of the week.  Two in the group were nuts for dolls. Their tiny charges kept a close watch on the proceedings.

Stick around for a quilt show.  (Sorry I haven't learned how to insert a slide show, but it's on my to-learn list.)

Now you can understand why I'm always inspired with this group!

Winter is coming back next week, so keep warm and quilt on.

Sunday Stash Report

I had a productive week.

Rock Island Campfires
Irish Grandmother

On Monday I used 8 yards for backs on two quilts that will be going to the quilter soon -- Rock Island Campfires and Irish Grandmother.

Kinda looks like I'm in my "Black Period," doesn't it.

I will be teaching Irish Gran at my guild (my Beta Test Group) in May and at Peg Bingham's Quilt Camp in October.  This week I'll be working on another class sample using Ohio State's scarlet and gray color scheme.  Then it will be time to finish writing the pattern instructions.

Cathedral Stars

And another 10 yards went into Cathedral Stars!!  Only took 3 years, but considering I have many UFOs older that that, I don't feel too bad.  I'll be taking another Bonnie Hunter class at Pigeon Forge in March, so I wanted to have it ready to show her.

Add another 1/2 yard for binding a small quilt and my weekly stash report looks like this:

In this Week: 0 yds
In year to Date:  42.5 yds
Out this Week: 18.5 yards
Out Year to Date: 42 yards
Net Used for 2014: -.5 yards

Besides being almost even on stash inventory, I am now even on my 2014 goal of finishing two before starting one.  I have two UFOs in line to finish at retreat next week and I'm thinking about which of my "TODO" projects to take, as well.

We've had a cold, snowy week here.  But not as bad as other parts of the country.  So, as I always say,
Keep warm and quilt on!

Sunday Stash Report

When I took this picture I realized I only bought 10, not 12, fat quarters last weekend so I can deduct a half yard <g> .
Moda's "Collection for a Cause" Millbook Series ca. 1835.
Sales benefit the American Quilt Study Group.
If you have even the slightest interest in antique quilts, you should check out AQSG.
There is probably a regional quilt study group in your area --
a great way to learn more about quilts and fabrics.

I'm crediting myself for the half yard miscounted last week.  And I gifted a friend with a yard of batik for her birthday yesterday.

Beginning total:  13 yds.
Incoming:  0
Outgoing:  1-1/2 yds
Current total:  11-1/2 yds.

I didn't get the backs done that I had hoped to.  This project  -- Cindi Edgerton's "Tall Tree" -- has a higher priority.  I should be able to count it out next week as it needs to be finished by Thanksgiving.  Once I add a border it will be ready to become a quilt.  A little embellishment with buttons to hang ornaments and it will be ready to go.  I used mostly scrap greens and the whites came out of my FQ collection.  The border -- well, do you ever buy fabric because it's cute but then realize the "cute factor" won't hold up to cutting it into small pieces?

That's the story for this fabric.  I think it will make a perfect border.

I'm also making progress on Cathedral Stars.  All blocks are finished and I actually have one corner section complete.  The setting triangles and borders are cut.  Hoping to get a few more rows put together.

I will be making two backs for quilts I'm sending to Terry at Quilt Crazie for tornado victims in Washington, IL.

Best wishes for a pleasant Thanksgiving to all!
