More Eye Candy

N&B Day 4

My project for the day:

Twist of Lime
... Twist of Lime from an old Fons & Porter magazine.  I got the blocks made but not assembled yet.  I think I have enough fabric to make it bigger.  I cut the entire quilt a couple of Christmases ago with the intent of making a new king-size quilt for Son-2 and DIL, only to realize I didn't have enough of the light fabric to make it THAT big.  So it has languished in the box till this retreat.

Marilyn got the borders on Rainbow Swirls

Rainbow Swirls
Sena made a two-fabric bargello ...

... all she has left is the borders.

Kim started, finished a two-fabric bargello made with her own ice-dyed fabric ...

and put it away before I could photograph it.

Nancy did an expanded version of the two-fabric bargello, using a print for the "check" ...

I think it looks like the Aurora Borealis.

We have had nothing but rain for the last three days.  I think I'm turning into a prune.  Hoping we won't wake up to ice in the morning.

Quilt Show Wednesday

N&B Day 3

First on the runway is Libby's Chunky Churn Dash ...

Chunky Churndash
... before corners and borders.  A stop at Whittle's is planned for the trip home to look for a border fabric.  This quilt top (and back) will soon be on its way to California fire survivors as it will be a good twin bed size when finished.

Libby's leader/ender project today was adding sashing to Asian pinwheel blocks, a project started many years ago.

Asian Pinwheels
Sharon finished her Helix (original design).

Helix
Priscilla worked on a row-by-row quilt.

Memory Lane
Marilyn put borders on Twisted 9-Patch (no photo) and then started on a twisted log cabin.

Rainbow Swirls
Margaret is working on a sweet Jelly Roll design she saw on Facebook.

Sherbet
It had rained all day so the troops are happy to have something fun to do and fun people to do it with!

Nuts and Bolts - Day 2

and Tiny Tuesday #6

It's been a long and productive day.  My first task was to check out Tiny Tuesday on Angela's blog.  Within minutes I had these easy blocks made.

TT#6
I spent most of the day assembling Chunky Churn Dash.

Chunky Churn Dash - first 6 rows
All of the blocks have been stitched into a total of 15 rows.  The good news is I had enough of the gray fabrics to make the side setting triangles.  The bad news is my methodology left me with bias on the outside edges ... ouch!

I used my precut RSC pieces for Double Shot as leaders/enders.

Double Shot
I managed to get three yellow blocks made (not shown) , but one is too light so it will become a pot holder.

I'm not the only one to make a lot of headway.  But it's late so you will have to wait till tomorrow for the quilt show.

Nuts and Bolts

Day 1

After dropping DH off at the car rental place early this morning (we're still operating with one vehicle), I headed west for about 20 miles and then north through the back roads of Kentucky.  I joined my friends at Loucon, a Methodist training and retreat center, just in time for lunch.

Once I had made my nest, I planned to add the final borders to 9-Patch Bonanza.

Even with a really good pressing, though, the pieced inner border is just too wavy from my stretching things to make them fit.  I wasn't in the mood to rip or even to think about how to deal with it so the project went back in the box, AGAIN.  sigh ...

Next I pulled out the chunky churndash blocks.  First I put them on my design wall to get a nice distribution of colors.

My goal was to get the lightest blocks in the center, but I only somewhat succeeded.  Oh, well, it won't be obvious when I get the alternate blocks in there.  Here's my start ...

I have 8 of the 15 rows together, but didn't get a picture before I had to take them down off my neighbor's design wall.  I have cut all the remaining quarter-squares for the center and it looks like I may have enough fabric to keep the pattern going into the side triangles.

Priscilla is assembling a beautiful sampler made with Civil War prints ...

Donna put binding on a T-shirt quilt ...

and Sharon has been working on an original design ...

Time for bed.

Sunday Sunrise

A quiet morning on the lake

Sunrise - 2/3/19
Disturbed only by a large bird pecking on the metal chimney cover.

Not a breath of air disturbing the lake's surface.

Nothing but slow sewing today as machine is packed and in the car,
ready to head to Kentucky tomorrow.
If all goes well, I should come home with 4 empty project boxes.

Scrap Happy Saturday

YELLOW!

When I sneaked a peak at Angela's blog header early on January 31 and saw the yellow, I jumped right into my yellow scraps and started cutting for my February Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects.  The plan was to take them to retreat next week to use as leaders/enders.

Well, who can resist a pile of bright yellow?  First I selected a block to add to my Squared Away sampler from 2018, chose some scraps and got to cutting.  The block I picked was so simple that in no time I had it cut and sewn!

And not long after, I had eight chandelier blocks on the wall!

Oops - one on the right is turned
I am really enjoying the background in these blocks. Looks like it's been in a paintball fight.

I just hope I have enough of the background to make 8 blocks every month...

Strips are cut for Double Shot.  We'll see if I can hold off until Monday ... they are so easy to make, all from the same strip size ...

CCD Update

Before
I know it's not much of a change, but the replacement dark gray is a tad lighter.  It's a chambray and is "mellower" than the piece with black polka dots so I am happier now.

After
I think the chunky churn dash blocks have more personality on point, too.  I have cut as many strips as I can get out of the light grey so that might limit the size of the quilt.  Or the side setting triangles may have to be a different fabric.  I worked up the setting in EQ so that I know exactly how many quarter squares I need to make.  Hoping to make progress on this next week at retreat.
