... I Was

Where am I? |
Yep, the tire place. Second in line, I opted to wait during rotation, alignment, and oil change. I brought along one of those "eternal" projects, the ones that linger in the back seat of my car "just in case" I have time on my hands.

One hour later! |
Tied off the last stitches just as my name was called!
Last weekend I had a conversation with a few quilters from Virginia and Pennsylvania about the size of our bindings. I like for my bindings to
just cover the stitching (not sure if you can see in this photo, though).
If it's a quilt I
really care about, I cut the binding at 1-7/8"; otherwise I cut it at 2". How about you?
Today I'm celebrating a total finish!

Elegant Garden |
The rest of the day I spent in the sewing room contemplating (Mangofeet would say dithering) about my options on my One Monthly Goal (more on that later) ...

Serene Glow in progress |
... and getting a headstart on a pile of retreat projects.

Prepping for Retreat |
So far one trimming, two binding, one back ... All things that require space to spread out.

Congrats on your finish - so pretty! I like my binding tight and narrow, but since my hands are so bad now, I glue-baste and machine sew down all my bindings so I cut them at 2-1/2". When I used to do them by hand I used 2-1/4" strips. The good thing about using 2-1/2" strips now is that the leftover ends can be used in something else. Have fun at your retreat!
ReplyDeleteHurray for the beautiful finish! (But now you'll have to come up with a new 'eternal' project to keep in the back seat...)
ReplyDeleteYour Glow quilt is going to be amazing!
Kudos on the finish. I never thought of keeping a hand-work project in the car; and my own car needs a spa date so maybe it's time. I cut most of my bindings at 2", as skinny bindings are my preference.
ReplyDeleteGreat finish! And that looks exactly like my tire place where I often sit and knit waiting for them to rotate my tires LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI like your finish! I'm working on retreat stuff, too: 3 quilts to trim and put bindings on and finally going to put some 2006 blocks into a quilt top. Since I'll be missing a day, that's probably all I'll accomplish. Sharon B in Franklin.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to get a finish out of a wait at the tire store! And in answer to your question, I cut my bindings at 2 1/4". I used to cut it at 2" when I did hand binding, but find that the larger binding works better for me when machine binding!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! on your newly completed quilt. LOVE that you even took it to the tire place to "git-er-done"!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a lovely finish. I usually cut a 2" binding, mainly because that's how I learned to bind.
