Rainbow Scrap Challenge - Green

Green is a tough color for me -- so many hues/shades/tints/combos.  I have a pile of greens on the shelf.  Need a yellow-green?  Got it.  Need a blue-green? Got it! But what I can never find there is a nice spring green.

I used my search for this month's challenge color to clear out and organize my overflowing green scrap bin. Then I attacked my RSC'21 project blocks.  First up -- Sister's Choice.

These lean toward the blue-green side.  This is one of those blocks where fabric placement makes a lot of difference so I am trying to mix it up every month.

Then I whipped up a few Square Dance blocks in yellow-green combos.

It is so satisfying to take care of my RSC projects early in the month.

  1. I will be using a variety of green all week also

  2. You are on top of this RSC color. Later, I'll do it later. I like how you separated the types of greens you were using. The blue greens remind me of some of the OLD scraps I have. I doubt you could find that color now!

  3. Love that little table scraps piece, Libby and I'm always interested in how orphan blocks can be used. I know you will work out that pointy turn. Meanwhile, yes, greens are " a difficult colour" as Maggie Smith so famously said in Gosford Park to the young unsure woman wearing a green gown. But you are on top of them as shown here by your pretty blocks.

  4. I am the same way, Libby! Lots of yellow greens and blue greens in my stash. Recently I ordered some grassy greens just to get something that feels like a true green. I love your Sister's Choice blocks - that one's a favorite of mine!

  5. These blocks are so pretty. They make me think of flowers. Your square dance blocks ........ I have a slew of them, but they're only cut for now. Still cutting and deciding on the color of the chain. LOL

  7. Green is a color with so many personalities! I love your Sisters Choice blocks. And the Square Dance blocks intrigue me. Some people make them with four strips and some with two squares and two four patches. I’ve got to play with those in one way or another! Have a great, green week!

  8. There are so many shades of green. The two you chose make great blocks.

  9. We all have our favourites and the reason we have certain ones in our fabric stash.

  10. I try to get my RSC sewing done early too, then I can concentrate on other projects. Doesn't always work out that way though, other plans often get in the way!

  11. I like how you are playing with fabric placement in the Sister's Choice blocks. I just love that block and have made two quilts of them.

So you are finished with RSC projects already?? Then you must not have enough of them!

  12. I know what you mean by so many greens! Some play nicely together and others, not so much unless you have a huge variety. Fun fact: green is the color family in which our eyes can discern the widest range of hues and the most subtle variations. This is because our eyes evolved in the natural world where greens and neutrals are the dominant colors, and we needed to see them all to survive. Looks like you're having fun with all the greens in your RSC blocks.

  13. I wouldn't know about having my RSC blocks taken care of early in the month. I'm usually the one going, "Wow! Where did the month go??!! I better get my blocks done!" Lol! You've got some really pretty blocks to show for it, for sure! Good job!

  14. In packing up my fabric stash, I have sooo many greens, but very few blues. It's interesting what we tend to collect. Love your blocks and your greens.

  15. Spring green is a rare commodity in my stash too. Lots of dark greens though. Great RSC blocks for the month.

  16. I had trouble with the array of greens, too. Too yellow. Too blue. Too gray. They didn't want to play with one another.
