Wrapping Up the Rainbow

Pretty in Pink

With preparations for a garage sale Friday and Saturday, I haven't had much time in the sewing room.

(I'm wondering now if we'll make enough money to pay for the ad, signs, and stickers!  I keep telling myself the effort is worth it just because it is less stuff I will have to go through and pack if/when we are eventually able to move.)

Anyway, I made a special effort to get a pink Scrap Jar Star made while watching The Voice Monday night.

Scrap Jar Star #20
That makes 20 SJSs!  As soon as I get Triangle Bliss together and off the wall I will work on the final arrangement of the stars and then make a decision on sashing fabric as I don't have enough of the white I've used in the stars to make the sashing.  I had been on the fence about sashing; however, I've decided it will not only add some size to the final quilt, but also eliminates the worry over getting points to line up!

When Saturday rolls around I'll update my RSC progress with Angela at soscrappy.  But I'm posting now so I won't forget ...

  1. Wishing you a very successful garage sale. Your pink star turned out beautifully. Hope you get in a bit of stitching time hear and there this week.

  2. That pink star is luscious! Not having to match all those seams is exactly why I decided to go ahead and add the sashing! :)

  3. Good luck with your garage sale! I agree with you about the sashing and not having to match the blocks. If you want a light sashing, how about a small multi-color polka dot on a white ground?

  4. Wow!! I only just got my ORANGE blocks done and here you have PINK done already? Guess I better get off the computer and head up to the sewing room!!

  5. Libby, I think you've been hit by spammers! (Unless you read Arabic.) Hope your garage sale is a success. Enjoy the cleared-out space. And, yeah, you KNOW I like those SJSs!

  6. That's such a pretty block. How big are the little squares in the middle?

  7. I'm sure your garage sale will be successful - as you said, no matter what, there will be fewer things and you will have more space in your house. I always schedule a trip to a donation center after a garage sale so the stuff that is left over doesn't come back in! Pretty pink star.

  8. Good luck with the garage sale!
I'm looking forward to seeing all those SJ stars together. Hopefully you'll get lots of sewing time in the near future!

  9. I hope your sale goes well - I love a good clear out myself and it will definitely make a move easier to manage. Your star is so pretty - and you seem to have amassed a good number very fast; sashing is a good way to add a wee bit of size.

  12. Great progress. I love the way the SJS blocks look with cornerstones that give a nine patch look in each corner. Hope you were able to get rid of some stuff in the garage sale. Always great motivation for clearing out

  13. Love your SJS! I hope you do/did well with the yard sale. We have been planning to do one for a couple months but my brother (whose stuff is the main focus) can't seem to get his act together. Maybe next spring.

  14. Scrappy sashing could be perfect. Hope the garage sale is worth the effort. I always end up just donating the stuff I need to get rid of. ;-)

  15. Grand Illusion is so beautiful, Libby. And I'm a real fan of pink so this block is beautiful to me as well. Garage sales are great to get a big clean out and hopefully a little change in your pocket as well. Good Luck!

  16. Good luck at the garage sale! I've never had one but been to lots of them.

A Scrap Jar Star quilt always looks good with or without sashing. I never thought of it as a way to avoid matching points but will in the future!
