I Like Rose, But ...

Tragedy Averted

Last week, during my severe ADD episode, my attention was diverted to some 45-degree diamonds that I thought would work nicely in a minimalist setting.

I know, the photo is not the greatest, but I felt like the jewel tones could benefit from a dash of brighter color. So I looked in my solids drawer and came across some hand-dyed fat 8ths that I think I bought for my Hunter Star quilt (I'll have to go to the laptop to get a photo of that quilt).

While steam pressing the fat 8ths I noticed this on my NEW ironing board cover.

Hmm, did I spill some wine? Or did one of the fabrics bleed?  Time to do some scientific research!

Uh, yes, the fabric bled!  What bugs me is that I had washed all of these bits once.

Good thing I discovered this before putting those fabrics in the quilt. Tragedy averted, so far! But now I have to go look at Hunters Star and see if I actually used any it that one because it hasn't been washed.

Cross your fingers !!!

  1. whew! I had a yellow batik run and run once. Many in red family are unstable too. It worked for you this time! LeeAnna

  3. Colour catchers work wonders with unstable colour fabrics. Glad you caught it before you got too far.

  4. Glad it worked out for you. I bought a dark plum batik dress. It's had two washes with color catchers and needs at least one more. No harm done, no stains on me!

  5. I had some dark red run in my Crosscut quilt, and I even used Color Catchers! Hope you get your fabric figured out!

  6. That is kinda scary to know you had washed the fabric and it still bled. What a horror that could have been if it had made it into a quilt.

  7. I hate it when that happens! I really hope you don't find some in Hunter's Star.

  8. Oh wow, it's lucky you caught this early. That could have been heartbreaking. And the fact that you'd washed it once is surprising.

  9. Oh dear, that could have ended very badly. Glad you found the problem before using it in your new quilt.

  10. Color catchers. Synthropol. Either one will help and you can still use the fabric, or wash blocks which have already been pieced.
