One Monthly Goal - April

Spring Cleaning

Heidi at Red Letter Quilts issued a challenge at the beginning of the year to limit oneself to just
One Monthly Goal (OMG) and then report at the end of the month.

Up until now I've been trying to use the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC16) color-of-the-month to pull a UFO to finish as my One Monthly Goal (OMG).  This month the color is ORANGE and after a brief survey of the stacks, I realize I don't have anything with orange that is far enough along to finish quickly. Especially considering I have a few little deadlines ahead of me this month -- a couple of charity blocks and a Thoroughly Modern Mini (more on that later).

Plus I have been putting a lot of thought lately into the fact that my quilting obsession has overtaken our house and something needs to be done to rein in the mess. (It's so bad I don't even want to show you how bad it really is.)

Therefore my goal for April doesn't involve any sewing, but it IS quilting-related.  I am going to clean up my sewing area, close down the annex in the dining room, and return to my designated sewing area in the basement. I need to get my scraps organized in some logical system. This whole effort could very well involve deaccessioning some fabric and UFOs, too.

I don't mean to sound morbid, but I've come to the realization that not only will I not live long enough to use up all the fabric I have, but I'd rather spend my time doing what I enjoy and not feel guilty about what is lurking in the UFO pile.

And I'm hoping all this activity will help me shed a few pounds .....

  1. A worthy goal for April! Good luck, and have fun while you're at it.

  2. Good for you! Purposeful and practical!

  3. Oh, my goodness! You need to go lie down for a bit, until this feeling passes. 8)
My experience with cleaning things up is that *I Can't Find Anything*!!! For months... argh!

    1. That's my problem, too. I remember where it was, but not where it now is! Frustrating! BUT I do need to clean up, too. Good luck, Libby! Sharon B in Franklin

  4. Good luck with this! It sounds like you are ready for some sorting and clearing, and sometimes it actually feels good to let stuff go, I find.

  5. You can do it! Realizing something needs to change is the first step. It's amazing the peace of mind when you face something head on that you might have been avoiding. In January, I finished a quilt repair for someone else that I had put off for two years. My February was so much more productive in the sewing room, because I relieved myself of the guilt associated with the room. I'm sure you will find the same peace when you are done. Good luck!

  6. A great goal for April. I don't often get to that point, but when I take the time to really clean and reorganize, I'm usually so much more efficient afterwards that it was worth it. Good Luck.

  7. A great goal! I've been doing some cleaning out of my sewing space in small pieces, hoping that by the end of the year, it will be in much better space. Yours is a true spring cleaning project!

  8. Good luck with the sorting and cleaning. I've been doing the same thing myself and it was so freeing to send those UFOs I didn't like off to better homes.
