Hawk
Hard to see, I know, but it's rare to see a hawk perched on such a low branch in our yard.
I'm not sure what kind it is. Not a red-tail, more likely a sharp-shinned, but I didn't get a good look to see if it had yellow legs.
I will miss the wildlife on this hill, but I'm sure there will be many new varieties where we plan to go.
That's a good looking hawk! We have Cooper's Hawks in our yard sometimes. Unfortunately they scare away the songbirds from the feeders because that's who they prey on. If you have bird feeders, they will come!
ReplyDeleteSnowy owls are here this season, bringing birders to the park along the lakeshore. The explanation is that there were lots of voles and lemmings up north this summer so the owls had more to eat and then had larger broods. The youngsters have to find their own territory and have come south (well, Chicago is south of somewhere). On my walk yesterday I saw several patches of white feathers from some skirmish but I don't know if they were owl feathers.
